Things to consider when choosing a hosting service

• How much space are you allowed
• How stable is the Site - is it often inaccessible, does it go down frequently, is it dificult to log into, does it delete your site if you do not edit it frequently.
• Does it have FTP (File Transfer Protocol) for sending files to the site
• Does it have an on-site editor
• How large a file can you upload
• Is there a band-width restriction
• Does it give your site a short URL or a long, cumbersome one
• What sort of files can you have on the site
• Does it allow you to run CGI scripts
• What extras does it have (guest-book, forms, page statistics, - what is important to you?)
• How does it handle advertising - banners, pop-ups, whatever
• How easy is it to use
If you want to advertise, or have any commercial pages - are they allowed on that site?

Providers (Hosting services) sometimes change their terms and conditions, particularly the size of the site, or even switch over from free to pay-based accounts with very little warning.
Some providers do not give a clear indication of what they provide for free, and what is only part of a paid package, until you sign up with them. When checking out a provider, I often use a couple of sets of prepared Web Pages, which are ready to FTP to any site which has a URL of the type.

or http://mysite.provider.com/pages.html
Providers which give you a long and complicated URL are usually rather clunky
