1,375-1,335BC Suppiluliumas becomes king of the Hittites, organizes and extends the kingdom. On the death of Tutankamun, his widow Anchesenamun (daughter of Akhnaten) wrote to Suppiluliumas asking for one of his sons as husband. The young man was murdered on his way to Egypt.

1,550-1,525BC Amosis (Ahmose) leads fight against the Hyksos, founds the 18th dynasty. Amosis captures Avaris, expells Hyksos from Egypt, follows them to Canaan, and captures their city of Sharuhen (possibly Tel el-Ajjul in the Negev)

1,352-1,336BC Akhnaten (Amenhotep IV) - introduced and enforced worship of "Aten" - represented by the Sun-disk as the source of life. Moved the capital from Thebes to a completely new site "Akhetaten" (now Tell el Amarna). Libraries of correspondence with Hittite, Mittani and other kings. He wrote a "Hymn to Aten". During his reign there was tension with the priests of the other Egyptian deities, aand loss of Egyptian control over other lands. His wife was Nefertiti.

Tutankamen (Tutankaten) was forced to re-instate old system of gods and godesses. He may have been murdered, or killed in battle.

ca. 1,250 BC Moses leads Israelites out of slavery in Egypt
1,213-1,203 BC Merneptah (Merenptah) son of Ramesses II - campaigns in Canaan, lists the people of Israel amongst his enemies (first known mention of "Israel")
ca. 1,200 BC Ramesses III - repels the "Sea Peoples" and the "Peleset" (probably Philistines) who then settle along the mediterranean coast of Canaan.
