NOTE : The Book of Acts ends with Paul in prison in Rome for two years. It does not tell us whether or not Paul was released at the end of that period. Some scholars believe that Paul was executed at the end of the two-year imprisonment. Others hold a theory that Paul was set free, and returned to his missionary activites, maybe even travelling as far as Spain, and that he was then arrested and imprisoned for a second time, after which he was executed. The textbook accepts the latter theory. The InterNet resources give a variety of interpretations for the course of the last few years of Paul's life.
