NOTE - The author of the textbook inclines to a "liberal" view with regard to the writing and dates of the Books of the New Testament. In his view, some of the Books were written, not by the people whose names they bear, but by a later generation of writers following in their tradition. This is a view which is subject to dispute.
Page 24 - The Greek word used for the Church - ekklhsia, pronouned ek-clay-SEE-ah, literally means "called out" - the early Christians saw themselves as having been called out of their secular world by God.
Page 31 - Docetism, pronounced DOSS-et-ism, gets its name from the Greek word dokew, pronounced dok-EH-oh, which means "I assume, suppose, think". Docetism held that people had only assumed that Jesus was a human being, and that He only "seemed" to be crucified and die on the Cross.
See page 51 for Ignatius' refutation of Docetism
