These notes are mainly for the Web-based Courses.
"Key Verses" apply only to REL 101 and REL 103
To be eligible for an "A" a Reading Report
- must be sent in on time (by 9 am Monday morning)
- must have 6 "Key Verses" written out in full
- must have correct answers to all 20 questions
- must have adequate answers to questions which ask for an "account"
The Grade may drop to a "B" if the Report
- is up to one week late, OR
- does not contain 6 "Key Verses", OR
- has up to 3 incorrect, inadequate, or missing answers
The Grade may drop to a "C" if the Report
- is up to two weeks late, OR
- has up to 6 incorrect, inadequate, or missing answers, OR
- has some combination of 1, 2, 3, & 4 above
The Grade may drop to a "D" if the Report
- has up to 10 incorrect, inadequate, or missing answers, OR
- has some combination of 1, 2, 3, & 4 above
To be eligible for an "A" an Essay
- must be sent in on time (by 9 am Monday morning)
- must be 3 or more pages long
- must keep to the topic of the Essay
- must use Edited Standard Written English (ESWE)
- must give proper acknowledgment to any quoted material
The Grade may drop to a "B" if the Essay
- is up to one week late, OR
- is less than three pages long, OR
- has up to 5 mistakes in ESWE per page (this includes spelling mistakes and typos)
The Grade may drop to a "C" if the Essay
- is up to two weeks late, OR
- has up to 10 mistakes in ESWE per page, OR
- wanders off the topic of the Essay, OR
- omits main events from an account or essay on someone's life, OR
- has some combination of 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 above
The Grade may drop to a "D" if the Essay
- is padded with inappropriate or improperly acknowledged quotations, OR
- merely lists events, rather than giving a well-written account, OR
- reads like an article which has been cut and pasted from other sources, OR
- does not give proper acknowledgment for quoted material, OR
- does not address the topic adequately, OR
- has some combination of 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 above
Reading Reports or Essays which show evidence of a breach of Academic Integrity (copying from another student or from sources without due acknowledgement, or allowing another student to copy one's work) will be given a Grade of "F", with a concurrent grade of "F" for the Course.
Further penalties may also apply.
Essays should be prepared with a word processor and proof-read for typos, spelling, and grammar before they are sent to the instructor. The standards of Edited Standard Written English, ESWE will
be applied to the Essays. Essays which contain many mistakes in grammar, spelling, and/or punctuation may be downgraded.
