Measurable Learning Objectives and Student Learning Outcomes
Course Description
This course continues the study of the historic Greek language and culture. The aims of this course are to continue to build basic skills in reading, writing, and comprehension in order to read authentic Greek texts with the help of a dictionary.
The Measurable Learning Objectives (MLOs) and Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) follow the recommendations of the Greek Common Course Numbering Subcommittee of the NM-HED. The NM Higher Education Department has implemented a statewide common course naming and numbering system in order to increase transparency and simplify articulation and transfer for New Mexico students.
Course Objectives
- To continue to learn the basics of Greek grammar
- To continue to learn a basic Greek vocabulary
- To develop the ability to read, understand, and translate selected Greek texts relating to Western Civilization
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) - on completion of the course, students should :
- have an understanding of Greek grammar
- have learned a basic vocabulary of Greek words
- be able to use a Greek dictionary
- be able to read (aloud), with understanding, Greek sentences and simple passages from authentic Greek texts
- be able to translate and analyze Greek sentences and simple passages from authentic Greek texts
- be able to write and/or word-process short grammatically correct sentences in Greek
- be able to discuss the cultural setting of selected Greek words

Objectives for Module 1
By the end of this module, students should :
- Have refreshed their memory of the grammar of Third Declension Greek Nouns
- Have refreshed their memory of the vocabulary of Third Declension Greek Nouns
Objectives for Module 2
By the end of this module, students should be able to :
- Recognize, decline, and translate common Third Declension Greek Nouns
Objectives for Module 3
By the end of this module, students should be able to :
- Recognize, decline, and translate more Third Declension Greek Nouns
Objectives for Module 4
By the end of this module, students should be able to :
- Recognize and translate the Genitive Absolute
Objectives for Module 5
By the end of this module, students should be able to :
- Recognize, decline, and translate Greek Participles
Objectives for Module 6
By the end of this module, students should be able to :
- Recognize, conjugate, and translate the Subjunctive Mood of the Greek Verb
- Recognize, conjugate, and translate the Optative Mood of the Greek Verb

- Recognize and translate Indirect Speech in Greek
- Recognize and translate a variety of Greek Prepositions
